“Two POWER Players Taken in MLB Draft"

6/08/05
By Chris Ercoli

Two Palm Springs POWER players were taken today in this week’s MLB Draft. The two players taken in the draft were POWER RHP Eric Sheridan and POWER RHP and former Cathedral City High School star Robert Grace. Sheridan was taken in the 15th round by the Houston Astros while Grace was drafted in the 21st round by the San Francisco Giants. It is a dream come true for both of these players as they have been dreaming of this day since they began playing little league. ȁI’ve dreamed of this my whole life since I was little. When I was a kid I used to throw baseballs in my house pretending I was a big league pitcher,” said Robert Grace. Sheridan had the same type of feeling. ȁThis has been my dream since I started playing little league. It’s really a dream come true,” said Sheridan. Sheridan first got the news when he got a call from the Southern California area Astros scout last week. ȁMy scout called me Thursday and asked if I would sign with them if they drafted me in the first 15 rounds and I told them I would,” said Sheridan. But while Sheridan is still waiting to hear back from his team as to exactly what his assignment is, Grace has a little better idea what is in store for him. ȁI have to report to Phoenix on Saturday and from there they will either send me to rookie ball or to Oregon for short season A ball” said Grace. Grace, whose half brother Scott Eyre is a relief pitcher for the Giants, will have a chance to one day add his own name to the great line of legends in Giants organization. The POWER wishes the best of luck to both of these players as they continue on with their promising baseball careers.

The Power's First Season Comes to an End in Wichita
(8/7/04)

Saturday morning, the Power took on the Newton (KS) Rebels and came up short 3-2 in 10 innings. Sean Warlop took the ball for the Power and threw 8 solid innings giving up only 2 unearned runs. Kyle Huddy came in to try and pull the victory out for the Power but in the top of the 10th inning gave up what proved to be the winning run to the Rebels. The story at the plate for the Power was missed opportunities as the Power left 9 runners on base. Kurt Crowell scored both of the Power runs as he lead off the 3rd and 5th innings with walks that eventually allowed him to score each time.
