PALM SPRINGS, CA–Former Palm Springs POWER outfielder in 2010 and Central Arizona Junior College graduate Keenyn Walker agreed to a $795,000 signing bonus on July 5th, as part of a minor league contract with the Great Falls Voyagers (AA), according to MLB.com.  The Chicago White Sox took the 6’3,” 195 pound Walker off the draft boards with the 47th pick in June.

In an interview with MLB.com, Walker responded about the signing.  “It feels great,” said Walker of agreeing to terms with the White Sox and getting ready to begin his career this weekend at their Advanced Rookie Great Falls affiliate. “I’ve been dreaming about it since I was a little kid, and finally signing and to get out and play feels good.”

Entering the White Sox organization, Walker adds tremendous speed and switch hitting abilities.  At Central Arizona Junior College in 2010, he astounded fans and scouts, swiping 65 stolen bases in 68 attempts while collecting 50 RBI’s, and maintained a .402 batting average.

In his first six games with the Great Falls Voyagers, the rookie affiliate of the White Sox located in Great Falls, Montana, Walker has sported a .407 batting average with six doubles, one triple, and two stolen bases.  In all six games, Walker has been the Voyagers leadoff batter, and as he progresses, he continues to prove that he belongs at that spot in the lineup.

“I’ve been doing everything you can think of such as taking fly balls and extra batting practice,” said Walker, talking about how he prepares for the different type of competition he will see in the minor leagues or possibly the majors. “I am also extremely relaxed, even more than college ball.”

Taking the extra time to improve a skill set eventually pays off.  His work ethic with the Voyagers and POWER showed everyone that he is not only satisfied with being drafted, he is looking to become the next major league superstar.

If he keeps the pace, don’t be surprised if you see his name on the back of a White Sox uniform very soon.  But for now, Keenyn Walker’s new home is at Centene Stadium in Great Falls.
