The karate kid

Kicking, punching and braking wooden boards are all part of USC rising sophomore Mike O’Neill’s repertoire; he received his black belt during his sophomore year in high school.  And on the diamond, opposing pitchers are failing in the fight to keep grasshopper, a name given to him by his sensei because he was always so jumpy, off the base paths.  Number 17 has walked 23 times and has been distracting pitchers leading the team with 13 stolen bases while sporting a .275 batting average.  The left-handed outfielder is a local out of Riverside and finds Derek Jeter the most exciting MLB player because of his hard work ethic, the way he carries himself and how he plays the game.
