After a long weekend, the Palm Springs Power Baseball Club held their first two practices of the season Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon. Some local players that are playing with the Palm Springs POWER this season were in attendance today including right handed pitchers Morgan Earman and Brooks Kriske.
Earman was last seen on a mound in the Cochella Valley pitching for Desert Christian Academy where he put up video game numbers for the Conquerors. In his senior season, Earman went 12-1 with a miniscule 0.27 ERA. For good measure, he also punched out 144 batters in 72 innings pitched. Earman’s ridiculously good numbers put his name on MLB scout’s radars and Earman was selected in the 21st round by the New York Mets but instead of pursuing his dreams of a MLB career Earman elected to go to college and just finished his freshman year at University of Arizona.
On the other hand Brooks Kriske played his high school ball at Palm Desert High School in Palm Desert, CA. Kriske, who mainly pitched out of the bullpen this season, now plays his college ball at USC in Southern California.
Fan favorite Doug Finley was at practice on Tuesday where he threw his first bullpen session. Finley returns for his third season with the POWER. Finley along with Mitch Bluman and Jake Howeth are the only three returners from last year’s championship squad. Finley, who is sporting a firey red beard, was the closer this year for Colorado State University Pueblo where he led the team in saves. As usual the POWER pitching should be very good for this upcoming season.
The Palm Spring Power Baseball club will begin their season on Friday May 30, 2014 as they look to defend their title for the fourth straight season. Palm Springs will sport some fantastic players from all over the nation including players from Division I schools such as USC, Baylor, Mercer and Arizona. First pitch for Friday’s slate is at 6:35. Furthermore, there will be fireworks following the conclusion of the game.
